An entire generation has been saddled with enormous debt and hefty repayments, while they struggle with stagnant pay and soaring rents, making it nigh on impossible to save. It is deeply unfair. We should be scrapping student loan debt and tuition fees

The government should be ashamed that its migration policies are being cheered on by Tommy Robinson and Reform. Instead of standing up to anti-migrant hate, this is laying the foundations for the far-right. I questioned the Home Secretary on how she can be proposing such obviously cruel policies.
A blanket ban on puberty blockers, with a medical trial the only way to access them for young people, still isn’t enough for those who are ideologically opposed to the very existence of trans people and want the trial stopped. Nothing ever will be. And that’s why the government must be led by specialist clinicians in the interests of the child — not ideologues.
The UK has dropped to its lowest position ever (22nd) on an official ranking of the best and worst places to be LGBTQ in Europe. Ten years ago, it ranked in first place. Our government must reverse, not further, this shocking decline in LGBTQ rights.
Our government’s “profound disagreement” with the Israeli government has clearly not been enough to stop genocide. Where are the sanctions? Where is the full arms embargo? Where is the recognition of Palestine? These are all things we can do now. Instead we remain complicit.
Overnight, Israel bombed homes and tents in Gaza, killing nearly 100 people. Our government should have acted long ago to prevent this genocide by sanctioning Israel, ending arms sales, and upholding international law. The longer we fail to act, the more our complicity grows.
Trans people are being failed by the institution that is meant to protect them. It is deeply wrong that the body which is supposed to stand up for human rights is not only failing to speak out against trans people’s rights being stripped, but is actively contributing to this rollback.

Heba Muraisi, who is on day 72 of her hunger strike, has told her friend she is dying. I have signed @johnmcdonnellmp’s letter urging David Lammy to engage with the legal representatives of the pro-Palestine hunger strikers. It is shameful that the government still refuses to at least meet with the prisoners or their solicitors. This must not end in death.
The government is legitimising Reform with anti-migrant rhetoric while alienating long-time Labour voters by shifting to the right. This won’t defeat the far right, nor will it improve lives ruined by austerity — it’s clearly a lose-lose strategy. From my interview with @politicsjoe
A packed committee room with over 60 people in attendance for our panel of trans legal experts, speaking on the Supreme Court ruling today in parliament hosted by @nadiawhittomemp office. Chaired by Jess O’Thomson (they/them) Speakers included: Robin White (she/her) Oscar Davies (they/them) Dr Sandra Duffy (they/them) Olivia Campbell-Cavendish (she/her)
This International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia comes at a time of rising hate against our community, here and globally. LGBTQ people must never be thrown under the bus to appease bigotry. We must always stand firm for LGBTQ rights. #IDAHOBIT2025
I’m glad the government has felt the huge pressure from the public and MPs, and will no longer make digital IDs mandatory for working-age people. I’d always rather that our leaders respond to pressure with a U-turn than double down on bad policy. But this government must learn that to avoid embarrassing U-turns, it needs to listen to backbenchers much earlier. Even if harmful policies are eventually dropped, they have often already caused political damage and tarnished our credibility. With this in mind, the government must now drop its plan to restrict jury trials.

Absolutely gutted to hear that @goldenfleeceofficial on Mansfield Road will be closing. It’s a much-loved Nottingham institution, run by the most friendly team who always remember my weirdly specific drink order. We’ll miss you. Its closure underscores why the government must do all it can to protect pubs — they’re a key part of our social fabric.
We keep hearing about “difficult choices” to justify spending cuts. Real difficult choices are between heating and eating, paying your rent or your bills. The government can make another choice, and it’s not difficult: tax the super-rich.
Our inhumane asylum system is costing people their lives. Last year it was deadlier than ever. At the very least, every person who dies while attempting to claim asylum here should be counted, remembered and mourned. Last night, I spoke about why this needs to be law.
It was great to recently meet with @citizens.uk and constituents to discuss pathways to citizenship and what should be done to improve the current system.
Solidarity with pro-democracy protesters in Iran, who are revolting against a brutal dictatorship that has repressed and murdered its own people for the past 47 years. I’m thinking of everyone in Nottingham and beyond with friends and family in Iran, worried for their safety amid reports that the regime has killed over 500 people during the internet blackout. Threats of military intervention from Trump are counterproductive and completely unacceptable under international law. Our government must stand against this intervention, which would bring about further suffering for civilians, and apply diplomatic pressure instead.
Here’s why @nadiawhittomemp is supporting our new campaign End 1861, in partnership with @bpas_1968, to decriminalise abortion in England and Wales. While safe and legal abortions are available to most in the UK – roughly one in three women will have one in their lifetime – there’s been a worrying rise in criminal cases being brought under a Victorian law dating back to 1861. If you believe abortion is healthcare and shouldn’t ever be a crime that carries a maximum life sentence – join our campaign. MPs will be voting on abortion law reform next month. Head to the link in bio for a simple email template you can use to urge them to back bodily autonomy in Parliament.
I hosted @artnotevidence and JUSTICE in Parliament this week so MPs could hear how rap is being used in courts to paint young black boys and men as gang members. We discussed the serious implications this issue has for freedom of expression and the right to a fair trial. The CPS is currently consulting on this issue.
