All 51 men, including her husband, were found guilty of raping Gisèle Pelicot in her home over nine years. Her courage in making the case public and throughout this ordeal has been extraordinary. “Shame has to switch sides”. In France, here, and right across the globe. Artwork by @villanaart

As part of my commitment to share my salary with local causes, I’ve donated £3,000 to @emmanuelhousesupportcentre, £1,000 to @nottinghamclimateassembly and £3,000 to the @acna.centre1. Emmanuel House is an independent charity that supports people who are homeless, rough sleeping, in crisis, or at risk of homelessness in Nottingham. The Nottingham Climate Assembly is an independent community-based initiative, which believes in working collaboratively to involve local residents across Nottinghamshire in activities responding to the climate emergency. ACNA is a community space for members of the Afro-Caribbean community in Nottingham to gather for group activities, social support and access to public information. I’m proud to support these initiatives and the incredible work they do.

Elon Musk is dismantling USAID, which funds the UN’s World Food Programme, refugee aid, women’s health in conflict zones, clean water, HIV treatments, energy security, and anti-corruption work. Why is the richest man in the world so invested in making everyone else poorer?
No one should be punished for getting ill. Yet in the UK, a third of workers are stuck with Statutory Sick Pay so low it doesn’t cover basic bills. Worse still, 1.3 million get no sick pay at all. It’s time to raise Statutory Sick Pay – and make it available for everyone.
Trump’s win is a warning: if people don’t feel real change, the populist right gains. While I welcome my party’s first Budget, I worry it doesn’t go far enough. Let’s build on the good work our government has started and tackle Britain’s obscene inequality head on.
The public shouldn’t foot the bill for private water companies’ greed and failures, especially when there’s no alternative to relying on privatised water. Water privatisation has failed, and this government has a chance to end this scam by renationalising it. No more bailouts.

Four Palestinian journalists were killed by the Israeli military this past week. Out of 95 journalists and media workers killed worldwide in 2024, Israel is responsible for two-thirds of deaths. These are not just numbers, but lives lost in pursuit of truth and justice.
I share WASPI women’s deep disappointment in the government’s refusal to compensate them. The PHSO ruled that they were owed compensation due to the DWP’s handling of pension changes, leaving many financially unprepared. This historic injustice should be recognised and righted.
If you’re a victim/survivor, remember that the shame doesn’t belong to you. You deserve to be believed and supported to heal.

This #InternationalMigrantsDay, I call on our government to break away from harmful narratives perpetuated by the Tories on migration. It’s time to embrace compassion, celebrate the benefits of migration to our society, and rebuild safe and just asylum and immigration systems.
Tonight, I’m proud to be voting to bring rail services back into public hands. Poll after poll shows that this is what people want. Even a majority of Conservative voters support renationalising rail. It’s time to put passengers and workers before profiteers.
A big thank you to Rosehill School for hosting my Christmas card competition this year. The winning entry was this festive Robin Hood robin from Class 2. Well done to all the pupils who took part! Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

I’m on the @theipaper’s front page alongside other Labour MPs today because we believe the government is wrong not to compensate WASPI women. It’s not just them or MPs calling for this – it’s the ruling of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. Ignoring this sets a dangerous precedent.
In eastern Ukraine, rescue workers from the Independent Trade Union of Miners are risking their lives on a daily basis to fight fires, save lives, and carry out dangerous search and rescue operations under constant Russian attack. The @ukraine_solidarity_campaign is raising funds to equip those on the frontlines with essential tools. This Christmas, please give what you can and share this message to stand with Ukraine’s rescue workers. Your donations will help save lives. Thank you. The donation link is in my bio.
