Our government’s suspension of 30 arms export licences to Israel is welcome, as is the recognition that they could facilitate serious violations of humanitarian laws. But we must go further and ramp up the pressure for a ceasefire by ending all arms sales to Israel.
Today marks 500 days since the start of the brutal civil war in Sudan. More than 10 million people have been displaced and 25 million face acute hunger. The world cannot look away. We need to increase aid and intensify diplomatic efforts to end the violence and suffering.

In my first speech of this Parliament, I spoke about the transformative change we need to see from this government. To undo the damage done by the Tories, and stop the far right gaining more ground, we must end the era of austerity and instead redistribute wealth and power.

I recently visited Akins House, @frameworkcharity’s flats for former rough sleepers co-funded by @beat_streets_. Under Tory governments, rough sleeping more than doubled. Framework’s supported housing helps people off the streets and transforms lives.
The racist riots may have stopped for now, but the threat of the far right hasn’t. Lessons from Europe show the danger of growing disillusionment in politics and pandering to their agenda on migration and Islamophobia. We must chart a different path.

Horrific news that more people have died in the Channel. Earlier today, in a debate on Sudan, I called for more to be done to help those fleeing conflict there to reach family and safety in the UK. By creating safe routes for refugees, we can stop these deadly crossings.
