I am honored to serve in an Administration that supports and invests in our nation’s HBCUs. We at HUD proudly partner with HBCUs to conduct innovative research on housing and economic development in underserved communities through our HBCU Research Centers of Excellence. Earlier this year, HUD awarded $5.5 million to establish and bolster existing centers. #HBCUWeekLikes : 793

Here’s a look into my week ⬇️ Image 2️⃣: I spoke at the @smartunionworks Annual Leadership Conference in Washington, DC about how the Biden-Harris Administration is committed to helping union members succeed by building the economy from the bottom up and the middle out. Image 3️⃣: At the @nareb_realtist Annual Convention in Houston, TX, I announced a new partnership between @hudgov and NAREB to ensure housing counselors are prepared to confront appraisal bias and support impacted homeowners. Image 4️⃣: I visited @nyse last week, where Ginnie Mae President Alanna McCargo and I rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange to celebrate the 55th Anniversary of Ginnie Mae, an agency that is so vital to our work to serve borrowers nationwide that have been historically left behind in the housing markets. Image 5️⃣: While in New York City, I also met with city officials, developers and community leaders in New York to discuss the ways we can increase the supply of affordable housing and lower housing costs.Likes : 718

Caption : I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. A remarkable trailblazer, unmatched advocate for equity in S.T.E.M., and true champion for the American people, Eddie Bernice represented the people of Texas with distinction and grace for three decades. She embodied what it means to be a servant leader, and will be forever missed. My sincere condolences to the family and all who loved her.Likes : 673

Caption : In the midst of a tough housing market, the need has never been greater for our assistance. But we are working to meet the challenge. Here are some significant steps we’ve taken thus far to serve those who need our help most. ⬇️ 1️⃣ HUD has housed people through 120,000 new incremental vouchers in a three-year period, a 20-year record. 2️⃣ The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) has cut costs for homeowners and brought first-time homebuyers into the fold, achieving the first-time homebuyer rate at the highest it has been in over two decades. This year alone, FHA served more than 625,000 first time homebuyers. By percentage and volume, FHA served 3x as many Black borrowers and 2x as many Hispanic borrowers as our counterparts. 3️⃣ HUD has addressed the legacies of racial discrimination in housing. 4️⃣ New investments will build for the future, ensuring communities are resilient to the effects of the climate crisis, particularly for Black, Indigenous, and low-income residents of color, which are often hit the hardest. 5️⃣ Ginnie Mae supported a record high of over $2.5 trillion in current government lending, by providing liquidity in the housing finance system and facilitating the flow of more investment capital into US housing markets.Likes : 395

HUD’s Point-in-Time (PIT) count is so critical because it helps influence our response to this crisis as best as we can. With the PIT count helping to guide us, HUD has dedicated a tremendous amount of our funding and resources to help get people off the streets and into homes.
