Why do I invest in myself? Honestly, some days, I get frustrated with how sensitive my body can be. As I’ve gotten older, my body has become less tolerant of neglect. I’ve had to cut back on drinking, almost eliminate sugar, and prioritise daily greens and movement. I can’t operate at my best when I don’t prioritise these things. The sugar crash makes me irritable, a lack of exercise increases my stress, and not getting enough greens affects my menstrual cycle, making me feel like a version of myself that I don’t particularly love. Adulting is challenging enough, so to give myself the best chance to love who I am and share that with others, I choose to invest in my physical and mental health. I probably wouldn’t have listened if someone had told me 15 years ago how good it feels to prioritise these things. But I wish I had—it would have saved me a lot of time spent yo-yo dieting and questioning my mental state.
