This work is inspired by @thenapministry Tricia Hersey has been calling on us ( Black folk ) to ‘rest as resistance.’ honored to be apart of this @wehoarts moment. Alongside the CDM co founders @calmatetupedo and @alexandrealirezadorriz who also have gorgeous billboards up on sunset blvd. Thank you @kingavriel for being such a beautiful performer in this piece. And thank you @ashleemariepreston for capturing this work the way you always are able to do. Clarity, grace and firmness. Artist Statement: Black Woman Rest is a ten-minute visual meditation, filmed amidst the serene landscapes of Joshua Tree, inspired by Tricia Hersey’s Nap Ministry. This project invites the audience to hold space for the sacred act of Black women resting. Inspired by Patrisse Cullors’ Abolitionist Meditations practice, it challenges the pervasive notion that rest is a luxury, not a right, for Black women. In a society that often demands relentless productivity, Black Woman Rest serves as a call to presence, urging viewers to acknowledge and honor the necessity of rest and restoration. This billboard project is not merely a visual experience; it is a meditative journey asking for a collective recognition of the importance of rest, especially for Black women. Through this piece, Cullors seeks to create a space for reflection, healing, and solidarity, as we collectively affirm the power and necessity of rest. 📸 @jmlakl

History isn’t just something we remember–it’s something we live. #EyesOnThePrizeIII is out @StreamOnMax. Honored to have been invited to be one of the executive producers of this project. Thank you again @joymaryro for being the brilliant producer you are and knowing exactly who should be on your team. Your allyship has been a healing balm for so many. Eyes on the Prize changed how I view what’s possible. It shaped my understanding of my relationship to movement. To community organizing. To art. Thank you Judi Hampton for continuing your brother’s legacy. Henry Hampton, I hope you are proud. Thank you and congrats @dawnporter for another epic documentary. And all the directors that worked on each episode. Was such a privilege to work with each of you.
In the aftermath of the January 2025 fire storms and now our rains, Los Angeles is in peril—communities uprooted, ecosystems obliterated. This catastrophe underscores the costs of climate change and our collective negligence. We implore the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and City Councils to implement comprehensive water collection systems, collaborate with Indigenous communities to integrate Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), and appoint a Special Liaison for Land and Water Governance. The State of California must purposely re-locate landslide material to burn areas and support TEK integration through grants and land trusts Federally, a modern WPA focused on climate resilience is imperative, alongside partnerships with Indigenous nations for sustainable land and water governance. Global climate advocacy groups should collaborate with governments to implement innovative soil testing and training. Key Requests: 1. Manage toxicity in burn zones to protect public health. 2. Establish protocols for landslide and debris management. 3. Develop labor and study programs for ecological restoration. 4. Integrate TEK into land and water governance. 5. Appoint a Special Liaison for Governance to oversee these initiatives. 6. Ensure strategic rainwater retention for fire prevention and ecological rehabilitation. 7. Prioritize housing and safety by pausing evictions and creating sustainable housing solutions. Together, we can build a resilient future for Los Angeles County and beyond. link in bio to sign our petition! #climateaction #ClimateAction #Sustainability #TEK #WaterConservation #EcologicalRestoration #FireResilience #IndigenousKnowledge #CommunitySafety #EnvironmentalJustice #LosAngelesRecovery #GreenInfrastructure #ClimateResilience #ProtectOurPlanet #SustainableFuture #ActOnClimate @anawakalmekak @osopepatrisse @laurenmetropolis thank you @adamhrrr for working on this reel and @centered_rose_ceramics for your map and #metabolicsonic for score

Bestselling author, artist, and abolitionist Patrisse Cullors (@osopepatrisse) pens words that honor the resilience, beauty, and power of the LGBTQ community. 🏳️🌈✨🏳️⚧️ “Every act of queer joy, every moment of trans visibility, every time we love openly—it shakes the foundations of the death-dealing structures that would rather see us silenced,” Cullors writes.
