I mean… First of all, many women don’t want children and that is awesome. People deserve reproductive choice! Maybe the sky high maternal mortality, lack of guaranteed paid family leave, the high cost of health care, unequal pay, criminalization of abortion, criminalization of miscarriage, cost of pregnancy (medical and physical), cost of childcare, and so many other social failings of our society are playing a role? Just a thought? Oh, and how “programs” like this (menstrual classes? Pretty sure those are not going be factual) assume that the sole purpose of women is procreation? Fascist regimens do like to reward the “right” women for procreating though… 🤮

On Friday, Dr. Oz, who never met a medical scam he couldn’t promote for profit finally said the quiet part out loud when he was sworn in as the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services: It is your patriotic duty, I’ll say it again, the patriotic duty of all Americans to take care of themselves because it is important for serving in the military, but it is also important because healthy people don’t consume health care resources. And The best way to reduce drug spending is to use less drugs ’cause you don’t need them, ’cause you’re healthy. And it feels a lot better, as well. This is a page right out of fascism. It is othering people and creating a mythical past when we were all healthy. There are so many parallels between fascism and wellness, so I was not surprised at all with Oz’s choice of words. I wrote a long piece about this on The Vajenda. It’s cruel and very concerning. The water is boiling and we are in the pot. There are so many ways Medicare and Medicaid can be restricted and used to further weaken medical care. It’s really frightening. And Oz is just an awful person and apparently void of empathy. Yes to free MHT along with free birth control in Canada! I am absolutely in support of this. But please, let’s not leave the women out who can’t take MHT! We also need at least one non hormonal option! Considering the cost of fezolinetant and the lack of generic, this is probably the obvious choice.

I’ve watched this play out here! I know how the story ends. I voted Liberal. I think Mark Carney isn’t an ABC candidate, he has the financial know how and calm crisis management skills for the moment. While I don’t get to vote for him, by supporting a Liberal MP I get to indirectly. I think @melaniejoly is amazing! I want to the support the party that is using her amazing talents and intellect. Can I brag about my Yorkshire pudding? The last few years when I made them at Christmas, they were a disaster. Like hockey pucks. I lost my Yorkshire pudding Mojo. Which considering a I’m a Geordie girl is really sad. i’ve spent the last week scouring the Internet for recipes and I was determined to practice them before Christmas and they turned out divine. This is from @the_food_dee and he uses the old standard of equal parts, egg, 2% milk, flour by volume. Make the batter well ahead and let it rest in the fridge for several hours. I used 1 tablespoon of canola oil per muffin well and it made eight. Follow his tip for pouring to prevent the batter from going everywhere! Served with roasted carrots and parsnips that basically tasted like sugar, and I use the drippings from the chicken for some gravy.

The problem with sorting out symptoms in the menopause transition, is the menopause transition (a.k.a. perimenopause) happens as we age. This is why we need longitudinal studies! Furthermore, some recent studies looking at bio markers suggests aging isn’t linear and we may have significant shifts in aging at least twice: one at age 44 and the other at age 60, give or take a few years (that is the average). And the results are the same for men and women! If the average age of onset of the menopause transition is 45 years, that means, women are may also be having an accelerating in aging at the same time. So again, is it menopause or is it aging? We need studies! I see so many people posting on her about symptoms supposed caused by menopause. Once I saw a list of over 100! We really need to be mindful of what we know based on longitudinal studies and what me think we know. For example, I hear many people talking about a dramatic loss of muscle mass in the menopause transition. The most recent study I wrote about for The Vajenda indicated that one of the biomarkers that changes at age 44 was related to muscle health. We obviously need more data, but this change was seen for men and women. In addition, we have longitudinal data from at least 3 studies showing no significant change in muscle mass related to the menstruation or the early menopause. I wrote about all these studies recently for the Vajenda. I hope you read my most recent piece. We need high quality data, and sometimes the echo chamber of social media can make something seem like a menopause thing when studies say otherwise or we just don’t know.
