I’ve debated sharing this, and decided it’s important. There was a time I wasn’t sure if Everest would be here this Christmas. He was given a grim prognosis when I was around 13 weeks pregnant. Doctors told me if we didn’t terminate the pregnancy, it would likely end in miscarriage. After extensive testing and 7 weeks of hell, everything came back clear. He’s healthy. Doctors were stunned. He is a literal miracle. I’m grateful we trusted our gut, and for all the prayers. Alessandra got to walk where her great great great (!!!) grandparents lived. How special is that! Finding my long lost family in Slovakia reminded me how much I have to learn about those who paved the path before me, struggles and dreams I may never fully know. So many of us argue about what we believe, yet don’t even know who we really are. 50% of us can’t name our 4 grandparents, let alone one of our 16 great great grandparents. Everyone you see in this video is related to my great great grandfather, Matus. Thank you for welcoming me with such loving, open arms to Lietavská Svinná! How surreal drinking the water you captured from the same spring in the forest where Matus would roam 100 years ago, eating the delicious koláče that reminded me of what my great grandmother made me as a little girl, and watching my daughter play in the yard where generations before her weaved the story of our family — fighting for truth and against the Nazis.
