Recently I had a little scare with Alessandra after hours and as a first time mom, I felt a bit helpless as to who to call or what to do. The idea of waiting hours in a crowded urgent care with a new baby seemed like a lose lose situation. In the midst of a broken healthcare system, I found a concierge medical clinic called Sollis Health and loved the experience so much I decided to partner with them. We slept in the firhmen forest under the stars, surrounded by the famous endemic (they’re only found here) dragon blood trees that live more than 500 years!! Which scene is your favorite? While here, the local Bedouin people slaughtered a goat for us. At first I thought there was no chance in hell I would try it, but then I thought about how American meat is factory farmed in inhumane conditions, raised on GMO feed, and pumped with hormones, and I had to check myself. They use all of the goat, including the skin, to make drums. Living among these trees and with the Bedouin people is a core memory. #socotra #yemen

What a holy day, and extra special this year. As someone who is guided by my faith in God, who grew up as a Christian, married a Catholic, and was told in my early twenties that my mother’s mom was a Jew, I am celebrating all kinds of miracles today. The miracle of Jesus’s life, the miracle of light, and the miracle of self-discovery in that a shiksa 🙋🏽♀️ who grew up making latkes for Christmas every year before realizing she wasn’t a full shiksa gets to share the full spectrum of who she is with her daughter.
