Detroit baby, 2003. Autograph signing with the gang. I have always loved Detroit; the people, the music, the food and the energy. ❤️💪❤️
Thank you Mr. President and Dr. Jill Biden for the invitation. I am deeply honored to be recognized for my work in helping to make Equality Marriage the law of the land. It has been my pleasure and my greatest pride to fight for the freedom to love. I have every protest, rally, email, text, phone call, Gala, parade, speech, party, meeting, zoom, face and memory etched in my heart. Love won baby and the world spins forward. #loveislove 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
No, my New Year was not nearly this glamorous- this outfit lasted five minutes- just long enough for a grainy selfie- and then I was back in jeans and a sweatshirt and in the ball pit or making grilled cheese sans. Anyway, I wish you all love in your life. I wish you all a deep love for and connection with yourself because that’s where it all starts. I hope you dream big and go for all you want. I’m sending love to everyone around the world who is suffering. With so much going on in the world right now I feel those of us who are strong enough to love must love. All lovers on deck! Happy 2023 everyone! ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Happy 8th birthday Dashiell!!! I was sent an angel and a warrior. I love your wit and your scientific mind, your love of the ocean and your compassion. Most all I love how you deliver a one liner like nobody’s business. I know you will move mountains and I will be the wingman to all your dreams. I love you my sweet boy with all my heart. Let’s go celebrate!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I almost didn’t make it to DC for the signing of the respect for Marriage act. I waffled back and forth knowing the trip would have to be done in about 22 hours. I am so glad I did. It was just the burst of hope that we all need right now and a beautiful confirmation that democracy works when we work it, that we can make great things happen in this country. It was a gorgeous and pure celebration of love and at the center of it, for me, was my dear friend Todd who has worked relentlessly and selflessly to give everything he can to equality and democracy. A big thank you to him for encouraging me to get on that plane and make the trip. It was a whirlwind and I almost missed my flight back but we do not get these Moments back. We must celebrate the victories as often as possible to carry us through the next chapter. I love you Todd and thank you for all the inspiration you have given to so many over the years. December 13th, 2022 #wewerethere #lovewins ❤️🇺🇸❤️
Michael Butler who was the original producer of HAIR, the one responsible for bringing it to Broadway, died on November 7th (my birthday). He was 96 years old. He lived an extraordinary life. He was an advisor to President Kennedy but gave up his political aspirations to revolutionize theatre and boy did he ever. He turned it upside down with HAIR. I was able to spend time with him after meeting him through my dear friend Charles. He came to the house and I visited him at his condo before he was moved into a home. The conversation always ran the gamut from politics to art to travel to laughter and more. I told him things I never told anyone and he told me about Audrey Hepburn who I’ve always loved. His life was extraordinary but more so, he took what life had given him and kicked off a revolution- that is where I connected with him. I have always connected deeply to people who have taken their chosen profession and turned it on its head. God bless you Michael and here is to the people who do not see the world the way it is but rather the way it could be and set out to do something about it, here is to the dreamers and the visionaries. You truly were an American original. I’m so glad you met Dashiell. Rest well good man and I’ll see ya on the other side.. just much further down the road but save me a seat next to ya- I want to sit with the rowdy kids xx ❤️
My heart is broken. Shame on every single politician and person who has stoked hatred toward the LGBTQ community. I can’t stop thinking of Martin Luther King’s quote about ‘the fierce urgency of now’. We need to do something about this now. As King said this may well be mankind’s last chance to choose between chaos and community. There is no justice without truth and the truth is the hatred that has been stoked in America is going to take our country down. Americans are dying and if you do not care about your fellow Americans dying then god help you. Stop this hatred. There is nothing American about this hatred. I stand with the LGBTQ community💔
As a Mom, you know what’s better than flowers or chocolate.. some down time.. a moment to breathe. Happy Valentines Day to everyone. I hope you have love in your life and you cherish it. Hold your loved ones close. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Today is the last day of the looking out foundation fundraiser (link in bio) and everything up to 100,000 will be matched. They have already sent 60,000 to two vetted organizations on the ground Turkey and Syria. You can also drop off tents, warm winter pants, coats and sleeping bags to the Turkey Consulate here in Los Angeles. ❤️🙏🏻❤️
This is 8. Hard to believe 8 years ago I made a gorgeous classic rock playlist for Dashiell’s birth but I ended up needing a c-section. I turned to my nurse on our way to the OR and said, ” The music.. my music, I made a playlist”. She said, ” We have pandora, who do you like?” and as I was being rushed into the OR I shouted, “Beatles!”. Dashiell was born 40 minutes later to HELLO/GOODBYE. That night I held him and we listened to the entire playlist which was filled with all the greats; Van Morrison, Joplin, S&G, Elton John, Stones. So Dashiell’s first night on Planet Earth we huddled on a little hospital bed and had a sing along. And I wonder why he was born with that ultra cool rockstar energy- you know the kind-really understated and cool and very quiet, almost awkward and shy- until he sings or you give him a mic. Then he turns into David Bowie, making up weird and wild songs or he belts it out like.. well.. here.. one of his fav bands is Imagine Dragons. Here he is singing to a cactus after swimming all day in Hawaii. I will always be his best audience. I love your voice Dashiell. Stay close to Music my love #thisiseight #ImagineDragons #leadsingervibes
Celebrate as much as you can, with everyone you can, for as long as you can. It all goes so quickly. Enjoy your Holiday Season ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love this picture. With my dearest T.Todd. I’m getting frisked and he is looking dapper. We did it baby. I will walk across a bridge with you any ole day, arms locked. Here is to democracy- it only works if you work it. Get involved. I’ll never forget this day 🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸
The kids of Sunset are having a sugar cookie decorating contest. So cute, so sweet.. my god they are growing up fast!! Merry Christmas!! My Mom’s flight was cancelled but she is some place warm and all is good. I hope you are safe and warm and with people you love, sending love out to everyone. Here is looking at 2023 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A young prince. I don’t understand this. It all stems from such enormous hatred, all being directed towards young African American men. I don’t know what we do to change this but change it we must. My heart goes out to Tyre Nichol’s Mother. Rest in power young prince 💔
Dashiell has decided he is starting an 8 AM taekwondo class for beginner adults 😂 Apparently he wants to be a rock star with a degree in marine biology who teaches Taekwondo. We each got ten push ups for laughing so much 😂😂😂
What a legend. I saw Fleetwood Mac after she rejoined the band in 2014. I was pregnant with Dashiell. I’ll never forget that concert. Reunited after 35 years and the magic poured off the stage. It’s always better the second time around. She orbited around Stevie Nicks and the two were in a poetic dance that was like some sort of magic spell. Fleetwood blessed my baby bump backstage and Dashiell has loved music ever since. Here is to the quiet souls who hold it all together. Rip Christine McVie.. and the songbirds sing like they know the score ❤️
Thank you @T_Darklady_art and @T.Darklady for this gorgeous piece. I can only imagine the time and care you put into creating this portrait. I read your entire letter and not only are you a wonderful artist but you should start writing poetry as well. The last paragraph was filled with so much emotion and imagery, I think anyone who has lived a full life could relate. Brava, brava! Thank you also for the comments about Thea and I and our work in QAF. I promise I will get her portrait to her within the next month. Much love and please keep creating, your drawing and your writing are both beautiful and moving. Much love, Michelle #realwomensupportwomen
So during the pandemic I homeschooled Dashiell by myself for about two and half years. The entire time I kept telling him if he listened to me and did his homework that I would get him a ball pit. He has wanted a ball pit since I can remember. So I came through on my promise. The funny thing is, everyone loves the ball pit. Kids love the pit. Adults love the pit. I now hold meetings in the ball pit. People will come over for dinner and we all sit in the ball pit and talk. It has taken over our den and our life and is maybe one of the coolest places in our home to go and chill. Thank you Dashiell for always having these wild ideas. And yes, I am that Mom that encourages all those wild ideas. I am a wingman to his imagination which is massive and never-ending. ❤️
Shooting Chris Hulen’s EVERYTHING’S FINE. She is such a lovely writer and director. My first time on set since the pandemic. Chris Hulen’s script is not only important but so well written and the cast and crew were exceptional. 🙏🏻
Hope you had a great Turkey day. Thrilled to be able to count my blessings with friends and family 🙏🏻🍁💃
Dashiell earned his Blue belt!! I told him I was proud of him but I also pointed out that what I really love is that he does it all while keeping his integrity as a gentleman. I think sportsmanship is important. I believe you can’t be a great leader of a team unless you have a certain humble confidence and a respect for your fellow team members. Sure you might stand out once in awhile or win some hardware here or there but if you want to be great, I truly believe it is the integrity with which you study and the respect you bring to whatever it is you are doing. I see Dashiell has that. Keep that Dashiell. Remember it is not those with all the bluster or the braggarts who finish boot camp but the ones who doubt themselves at times or know they have to work harder or the ones who care about their friends.. those are the ones you want on the battlefield of life with you. And you are that. You’re one of the good ones my love ❤️
I love fashion. I love people who take their chosen profession and turn it on it’s head. I adored Vivienne Westwood. My first piece by her was a light pink denim jacket with black pinstripes. It was part blazer and part corset with a cinched in waist. Every single time I put on that jacket I felt so utterly feminine and at the same time powerful, almost as though I was a walking piece of art. Every woman who rebels makes it easier for the next generation. Thank you Ms. Westwood for your beautiful, feminine rebellion and swagger. rip ❤️
21,000 dead. Children being rescued only to find their parents have died. 78,000 injured. Watching the news with tears streaming. What do we think are the best places to donate? I am looking at the Disaster Relief Fund. Any thoughts? 🙏🏻
I want to congratulate my dear friend and one of the most brave woman I know, the new Mayor of West Hollywood, Mayor Sepi Shyne!!! I’ll always be in your corner Sepi and West Hollywood is lucky to have you in ours!! You will move mountains woman, you already have as the first woman of color to become Mayor of West Hollywood, the first out Iranian to be elected to office and a fierce fighter for human rights here in California and around the world. Brava lady, Brava ❤️✌️🇺🇸❤️🌈 #unstoppable
I looked at the temperature, saw the sun peeking through and we took our shot. Our first swim of the new year. I remember when I realized Dashiell was part fish. He was either three or maybe he had just turned four and he swam the length of the pool, under water. When he got to the other end he stayed under and was playing around and I was amazed he was still holding his breath. I called out several times and he stayed under. I then walked over and he casually popped his head up and said ‘Hi’! I realized then he was part human and part fish. #myboyfish 💜
