Happiest of Birthdays to the one and only Sharon Gless! I love you Dame Gless! Thank you for paving the way lady!! Pictured here with the gorgeous Dawn LaFreeda 💕
This was our pride. Thea and I in the middle of New York, hot and sweaty and all we had was to pour water on each other .. oh and at some point, someone put a tattoo on my back. Happy Pride everyone!! Celebrate with abandon. I know it doesn’t feel as safe as it once did but we can’t allow that to change our energy. Never let the haters win. Stay free and happy and shine brightly. Love each other and run from anyone who tries to make you shrink. Be bold. Be bold and trust there are blue skies ahead, we will make it so.. together! 🏳️🌈🇺🇸🏳️🌈🇺🇸🏳️🌈🇺🇸🏳️🌈🇺🇸🏳️🌈🇺🇸🏳️🌈 #pride #newyork
I am honored to have been asked to read the poem THE MIXNER TREE by Mary Louise Oates at David Benjamin Mixner’s funeral Monday, March 24. It was a gorgeous service. Governor Murphy of New Jersey gave the eulogy. President Biden and President Clinton sent letters to be read, thanking David for his service and for fighting for democracy, freedom and human rights. There was so much love in the room. Once again, in David Mixner fashion, he brought everyone together. I saw friends I had been in the trenches of fighting for equal rights with for over two decades. It was simply an absolute love festival honoring a great Man, who was a friend to all of us. I love you, El Papa Grande. Rest in peace you American Original ❤️ You were one of the Founding Father’s of the LGBTQIA movement and an absolute legend. “The only sin is to not do anything” ~ David Mixner
SHOW HER THE MONEY is a must see documentary! It is produced by my dear friend and fellow QAF Alumni, Sharon Gless. It stars my other dear friend, Dawn LaFreeda. Dawn is a business baddy who went from waitressing at Denny’s, saving her tips, opening her first Dennys, to owning the most Denny’s restaurants and the most restaurants of any person in America. We all turn to Dawn for advice. She was the leader. The first time she tried to set up her corporate accounts at a bank, they were confused what a woman was doing in business and literally would not take her money. This was years ago. Last night was a great night with the LA premiere in Santa Monica. The QnA after was filled with female founders, starting up businesses, boot strap style, and finding their way to investors. Only 2% of the investing funds available in America go towards female founders and yet they are the future. Their businesses thrive because they have always had to do a lot with a little. The future is female founders and the men and women who support them. If you’re a woman starting up a business there are investors out there who are looking for you. Watch this documentary!! Loved hanging out with Sharon and Tyne Daley on the red carpet. I’ve worked with both actresses and love them both. Go female founders!!! And when you get someplace and become a unicorn company, put your money back in and invest in other female founder companies. 💕✌️💕 photo credit: Todd Williamson @sharonglessreal @dawnlafreeda #femalefounderthemovement
Happy Mother’s Day!! I am sending love out to all Mothers everywhere, the world over. Every day I think of Mothers in Israel, in Gaza. I think of Rachel Goldberg every day. I think of her son Hersh being held hostage. I do not know Rachel personally but my friend Steve knows Hersh’s aunt. I think there should be a statue of Rachel in every city to symbolize what it means to be a mother. Her relentless fight is extraordinary to watch. I pray some day we are lucky enough to have a Mother as president. It is time. Men are so wonderful but the world needs feminine energy to rise up and lead us. We need Mothers to lead right now. Anyway, Happy Mother’s Day everyone. Go celebrate your mother. And shout out to my son Dashiell for making me a mother. He was definitely meant to be my son. To see the world through his eyes is delightful, hysterical, heart warming and insightful. I love you my sweet boy and I love being your Mama❤️
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!! This was Dashiell’s first speaking part on stage and he nailed it! He worked so hard with Bob Corff, my vocal coach. Bravo Dash! I love you to the moon and back and I so admire your work ethic 🎄💕🎄💕🎄💕🎄💕🎄
Dashiell and his band made their debut in Los Angeles tonight after months and months of intense rehearsal. I was a nervous Mama but after watching him and his friends Slay SEVEN NATION ARMY, I’ll never be nervous again. I was watching him with a bit of Awe. He looked so at home jamming out on stage, like some old soul. That’s what everyone has been saying who has seen the video- he’s just an old soul. You blew the roof off of that venue and found a second home, the stage! May that second home serve you as it has served me. I cry knowing you’ve found your way to the stage, in your own way. 💕
I love you my sweet boy. You are all heart and grit and you are UNSTOPPABLE 💕💕💕💕💕💕 “ Repetition is the Mother of skill” – TR
Go Biden!! Go Schiff! Go Shyne!! And go Ethan Weaver for district 4!! Ethan is a great great guy who can really make practical changes in a district that really is in need of some leadership!! Get out there and VOTE!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Happy New year!!! I am sending love out to everyone. May this year bring the much needed peace we all need. By the way, 3 hours after this selfie was taken I was bit by Hydroids which are a microscopic jellyfish.. but I didn’t tell Dashiell because I didn’t want to ruin his dream of swimming with giant Manta Rays. Little did I know- he was bit too.. lol. We both didn’t want to ruin our bucket list swim. The Manta Rays were truly the most majestic, elegant creatures we had ever seen, up close. The ocean is an entirely other world, within our world, a world I would never have known without Dashiell’s passion for it. Be well everyone and let’s hope we can all create a more peaceful and loving 2024 ❤️ Happy New Year!!!
The world needs light and miracles right now. We are praying for both. We are sending out a prayer for peace in honor of Hersh Goldberg Polin, to bring the hostages home. May he be protected until he returns to his mother’s arms. May we all find peace within us and without. I am good with everyone and I hope you are good with me. Anything you have your attention on, it’s done, forgiven. We turn the page of life and move on into a new era of love and light. Hanukkah Sameach! 💕🇮🇱💕 each candle represents the piercing of light through the darkness 💕
Happy belated Birthday Gloria Steinem! Thank you for being a guiding light, for never giving up the fight and for your personal words of wisdom to me. ❤️Photo credit: Sue Lavaccare “Perfect is boring, Beauty is irregular” “Any woman who chooses to behave like a full human being should be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat her as something of a dirty joke. Such a fun day, a very New York day. We went down to pier 36 to the Balloon Museum and had a ball, literally. They had a ball pit the size of an entire warehouse floor. Towards the end of the exhibit there was this enormous giant ball with charcoal sticking out of it. As the kids played keepie uppie with the ball it would make marks on the surrounding walls, sometimes creating a nice little abstract. Anyway, fun times. I love NY in that you can step outside your front door and end up making friends for life. It’s a great city for a kid. That’s just the magic of Ny. It’s a town for people who love people, who love diversity- all diversity. Anyway, here is Dashiell having a ball last month. 🍎🍎🍎
Sepi Shyne for Congress!!! I have known Sepi for over 20 years. She is the progressive voice we need to fill Adam Schiff’s seat. She is the real deal and she even saged my apartment when we were kids ( after a break up). You have my vote Sepi and thank you for never losing the fighter in you. We need your voice now more than ever. I love ya lady. 🙏🙏🙏 VOTE Sepi Shyne for congress!!!!
In the last year Dashiell is suddenly washing the car and picking up the mail and taking out the trash, bringing in the groceries- all of which I deeply appreciate.. but nothing compares to the moments where he turns to me and says, “ You’re the best Mom ever”. He says this to me daily. He has done this for a long time, I think it started during the pandemic. I can’t tell you what that is like but it floors me every time and I never take it for granted. I try to earn that every single day. Anyway, there are few things that pierce my heart but Dashiell manages to do that every single day. The truth is he is the best son ever. The best. I am beyond lucky to walk this path with him. His mind alone fascinates me but that pales in comparison to his kindness. Happy 9th birthday my beautiful boy!!! Keep walking your unique path, you are a leader not a follower. I love you to the moon and back 💕💕💕💕💕
Go see PURLIE VICTORIOUS on Broadway! It runs until February 4th. What a stellar cast. It was pumping on all cylinders like a well oiled machine. It tackles racism and jockeyed between taking your breath away and forcing you to howl with laughter. The lead actor, Leslie Odom Jr, talked from beginning to end and was spitting these monologues out at a level that was Olympic worthy. I know what it is like to talk from the moment you step foot on stage to curtain and his instrument was so finely tuned that he drove that train and kept up an athletic pace. The lead actress, Kara Young slayed me with her physical comedy. She deserves the Tony now. May the entire show win multiple Tony’s! Brava and bravo to all involved. Life rips the soul right out of you and art reminds us that we have one. Thank you to a wonderful production and a wonderful afternoon at the theatre. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
David Benjamin Mixner August 16, 1946~ March 11, 2024 We lost a giant today. David was the original gangster. He was a legend in the LGBTQ Community, an activist with unwavering moral fiber and a heart filled with enormous love for his fellow man. I remember the moment I fell in love with him. He stood up for me as I was hosting an event with him and Joan Garry. He didn’t have to but that was David’s way. He was a protector and it seeped into everything he did. Here he is with a three month old Dashiell who kept going after his cup (lol) and my dear friend Gary Belis. David emailed me about 6 months ago to say we should spend some time together. I knew what he meant and booked a ticket. We had our last dinner in NY on November 7th. He said thank you for everything I had done and I told him thank you for everything he gave us. We hugged. I do not think he took that last walk alone. I believe firmly that those of us who came here for a purpose bigger than ourselves are inextricably linked. Through our shared victories and even our losses we move forward, arms locked in life and in death. A little piece of us went with David and a little piece of David stayed with us. Save a seat for me Big Daddy, it should be some time, but I want to sit with the rowdy kids. Love you David. Rest in power and peace my friend ❤️ #davidmixner
If you ever get to the Georgia aquarium, make sure you check out the Beluga Whales. Dashiell and I could have stared at these Majestic, playful creatures all day. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would learn so much about the ocean and sea creatures. Dashiell will remind me that humans have only explored about 5% of the ocean. They also have a Whale shark you can swim with when you are twelve. Dashiell is counting the days. #1101daystogo 😂🦈😂
It just slays me that Dashiell is so cool swimming with these beautiful beasts. Yes they are graceful and poised but when you swim next to them you feel the sheer strength of their movement. It can be intimidating. But this is his happy place. He has swam with this Dolphin before. I think the first time he was a year old, the first time he was in the water with him. This was from our last trip to O’ahu over Thanksgiving. 💕💕💕Keep dreaming of a clean ocean my Boyfish. The world needs more people like you 💕💕💕 #futuremarinebiologist
He was the best. A fighter and a gentleman. He never tried to fool anyone for money or gain. He worked hard. He took care of his family and was always there when I needed him. He said beware the ‘good’ people for they might be good but that doesn’t mean they are kind. He was right. I wish I could give him a giant hug and tell him thank you. He was the original, the one who taught me to never take a backseat to anyone. I miss him more than ever. I love you dearly Papa. I have all those lessons and memories, moments and laughs locked in my heart ❤️ Happy heavenly Father’s Day Papa❤️
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! This is a pic from my Mom’s 85th birthday. We had just lost my father and my Mom had spent 35 grueling days sleeping in a hospital, a rest home, hospice, back to the hospital and then finally back at hospice. What a warrior. Look at her. Then she flew down to be with me and Dashiell because I was completely devastated. What a lady. She is now 91 and still tough as nails. I adore her more than words can say. She had nearly 70 years with my father. I remember growing up my parents had a running joke, they used the same Valentine’s Day card for about thirty or so years. I think it started when my Mom crossed off my Dad’s name from a previous card and signed it ‘from your loving wife’ and gave it to him one Valentine’s Day morning, as a joke. He then gave it back to her in the afternoon. They laughed and were delighted with themselves and did this for about thirty years. Anyway, find someone you can pass the same card back and forth with for thirty years and laugh hysterically about it. Happy Valentine’s Day to all the lovers and seekers of the real thing ❤️
We celebrated Sepi Shyne’s birthday last night. Dashiell and his friend came with me. They were so adorable during her speech, throwing in a ‘yes’ or a hoot or holler here and there. I love that they are both politically aware. Dashiell even has his ‘power to the people’ fist down pat. Anyway, March 5th, two people will move forward to see who takes over Adam Schiff’s Congressional seat. I am with Sepi. We need her voice at the table. We also need a fighter, not an establishment politician who has been around for decades. We need someone who will bring fresh ideas to get us out of the problems that old ideas got us into. Please vote for my dear friend Sepi Shyne March 5th. She is on the side of the people and we will greatly benefit if she is our voice in Washington. Happy Birthday Sepi! Thank you for your fight lady, I know it is not easy!
Happiest of birthdays to the our one and only Zeus Bob Ross Pierre William Clunie. Thank you for leaving your Mommy to come live with us. You are a gift and Dash and I love you. Happy First birthday sweet boy!!!! 💕💕💕💕
