January 2, 1993: “I’m Every Woman” was released as the second single from “The Bodyguard Original Soundtrack Album.” Written by Ashford & Simpson and originally recorded by Chaka Khan, Whitney’s version was produced by Narada Michael Walden with additional remix production by Clivilles & Cole (who also performed at Whitney’s wedding!) The single was a huge hit, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the Dance Club Songs Chart and #5 on the Hot R&B HIp Hop Songs Chart. It also won Whitney an NAACP Image Award for ‘Outstanding Music Video’ and a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.’

December 22, 1995:’ Waiting To Exhale,’ starring Whitney, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon was released in theaters. December 13, 1996: Whitney Houston co-starred in ‘The Preacher’s Wife’ with Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington. The film, based on the Christmas classic ‘The Bishop’s Wife’ starring Cary Grant and Loretta Young, was directed by Penny Marshall and grossed nearly $50 million at the U.S. box office. Whitney co-produced the movie soundtrack, which has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling gospel album of all time.

Written by Soulshock & Karlin and Tamara Savage, the song became a worldwide hit receiving two GRAMMY nominations for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Yesterday (December 14) at the former Vauxhall service area on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey in honor of Whitney Houston, the New Jersey Hall of Fame joined The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and public officials for a ceremony to unveil the service area exhibits and other initiatives in her honor.
