The Losers return to a very familiar place: ‘Salem’s Lot. But things look a tad different in 2004. Starring Rob Lowe, Donald Sutherland, Samantha Mathis, and the late and great Andre Braugher and Rutger Hauer, this TNT miniseries updated the 1975 novel by shifting the vampiric action into modern times. This affords the narrative a more topical lense, particularly the mutual feelings of a nation still reeling from 9/11 and the ensuing war overseas. Join the Losers in the popular Stephen King town as they weigh in on the miniseries’ 2004 vibes, the eerie connection to Wolves of the Calla, the changes to the source material, and the phenomenal cast — particularly Sutherland and Brauer. They also debate whether it’s cynical or earnest, why all the characters are jerks, the edge lord vibe of it all, and its connection to a more recent miniseries cut from the same cloth: Chapelwaite. He’s gotten a little more subdued in his old age (7!!!!) but Ex-Man still likes to get his ball (“ball”) on.
Who has no thumbs and is *high as f#uck*? More love to @modernanimal for easing Ex into a nail trim without full sedation.
What’s the celebrity couple name here? “Exam” won’t work… Exram? Bramley?
I wrote this terrible piece of doggrel during an Adult Children of Alcoholics meeting. Enjoy! (I think it’d be a great song to teach kids but I’m not ready to write a bad song.) When your head’s a mess And your to-do list is too long You’d rather stay in bed Just do a half-assed job Your inner critic is very loud You’re about to sob Don’t do the hardest thing Just do a half-assed job You’re a perfectionist You’re above the mob Be among the masses And do a half-assed job Perfection’s an illusion It keeps you trying too hard Join the rest of humanity And do a half-assed job This doesn’t really rhyme I’m teaching by example And I feel really strongly about this Please let yourself do a half-assed job
She woke up like this. Molly Murderkitten hasn’t been getting quite the IG love she deserves thanks to the Bram and Exley show.
This might be the funniest thing I have found in my family photos and those include pics of me with permed hair.

Not sure how Bram manages to look almost as substantial as his big brother here, but I can say my heart swells two sizes when I see them like this. (Molly is in her window perch.)
All is well.
I’m doing a series of posts on my experience/interpretation of the Twelve Steps over on buymeacoffee.com — it’s my low-stakes version of a newsletter, because I still really hate newsletters. You can give a one-time donation and get on my mailing list, or you can just visit once a week for a new essay. A reminder that if you enjoy or are inspired by these, I teach a workshop on writing your recovery! The next session will begin in late April. More info at anamariecox.com/thirdstory This week is on Step Two. Here’s the excerpt: A squad car waited outside the hospital door. The Black female police officer who helped me out of the chair also put on a pair of handcuffs. I was crying hard and still very dopey. I don’t remember if my husband or my dad were able to comfort me I just remember sobbing in the back of the car, snot running down my chin. “I’m sorry, honey,” the officer murmured to me. Her kindness made me cry harder. “I really am sorry. I am so sorry. We’ll be there soon. I’m sorry, sweetie, I’m so sorry.”
A reminder that the forced birth movement has targeted access to abortion pills as a major cause; the Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case that will almost certainly cut down the availability of the pills even if it’s unlikely to ban them outright. The international medical non-profit Aid Access (@aidaccess) will sell them to you for future use for $150 — dinner and a movie these days — and offering someone you love the ability to control their own reproductive future? Priceless. Aid Access doesn’t have gift certificates as far as I know but perhaps downloading this card can be the way you show your affection.
I have a new blog thing that, for now, is centered on the twelve steps. It’s at my “Buy me a coffee” site (buymeacoffee.com/anamariecox) because I am refusing to start a newsletter! You can get the posts mailed to you with a one-time donation or you can support the project monthly and get access to exclusive posts and submit questions (about recovery or… anything!). Some of these thoughts have been on my heart for a while and are finding their way into my memoir. Some of them are stray ideas from my reading or meetings. I hope you’ll find something that resonates for you. This excerpt is: Like any good American, I believed that an organized closet would fix me. I would visit the Arlington, Virginia Container Store and stand still in the valleys between towering displays of shelving, kitchen accessories, and laundry baskets. My cart empty; my mind filled with indecision, shame, and envy. I imagined other shoppers went home to pantries resembling the store windows. I tossed hundreds of dollars of plastic boxes, food decanters, and planner accessories into my cart and fled to the nearest chain restaurant for a glass of wine. Sometimes I opened the boxes when I got home, sometimes they waited for the next hypomanic episode when I would stay up all night, rolling socks and throwing out wire hangers until the sun came up.
The cloud cover allowed viewing of the eclipse without glasses—though it was still almost impossible to photograph. This is actually in the midst of the totality… the glow is corona of the sun. Zoom in really close and it looks like pure fire. Which, uhm, it is. #nofilter everything was briefly black and white. #eclipse
Man, it’s been too long since I ambled around the hood. So many important signs! Someone adopt Chavo!
Kind of a different vibe than “Don’t Mess With Texas.” #southaustin #seenonmyrun
