Massive thanks to the team keeping me on the road for @melbcomedyfestival this week at the @capitoltheatresydney … Instagram is not a very realistic medium and neither is a comedy show (although there are some sad bits in mine) – I am a very chatty person but for about six months now have been suffering from something called muscle tension dysphonia which strains my voice and is quite hurty. It is related to me using my face too much and not breathing properly and having a few sad things happen …. Anyway huge thanks to Polly from @performancemed who – along with Annie and Letitia and others have time back together and back on the road with the truly miraculous and strange sounding art of laryngeal massage. From them and the rest of my team of otolaryngological supporters I have learned so much about the voice. And Polly yesterday trussed me up like a Christmas goose and I just thought I would advise because it’s not always clear in a show that there are major supports in place, some in surgical strength tape form, some in family form, some in producer form (thank you @laurenannhillman, you are the actual greatest) and also the whole @chat10looks3 team and @glamgwenblake who designed a tea towel based on the most embarrassing details of my life. Come to the merch stand and grab a tea towel from my kids who will probably tell you the stuff that was too actionable to make it to the towel.
Show starts at 8.30pm, here til Sunday night xx

I’m in the green room for @theprojecttv about to go on air and I’m the only guest so this catering feels either incredibly generous or seriously worrying for my reputation. I’m talking about my tour of Fifty Odd Years Of Crabb (visiting @melbcomedyfestival from Wednesday, in the superb @thecapitolrmit) a show in which I tell embarrassing stories about myself to try and pierce the despair of these days.
This is Bunnings, an adult ringtail being released by @wireswildliferescue volunteer Cara (a lovely neighbour) into our backyard which happens to have a generous supply of lilli pillies (aka Possum Catnip). Unlike many of the rescues, Bunnings was not injured or orphaned … he was just caught red-handed in the nursery section of the shop from which he takes his name, and was eating into the profits hence the call for relocation. They do an amazing job these volunteers… some of the rescues are sadder and harder and there’s not always a happy ending but the fact that there is a whole network caring for these fellow creatures is lovely to know. Or collecting swamp mahogany and lemon Myrtle for Cara’s charges and dropping these tasty items in the basket on her doorstep. Welcome@to our hood, Bunnings! You’ll find that lower prices really are just the beginning… 😂
Hello, Melbourne!! Tomorrow night 8.30pm at @thecapitolrmit I will be kicking off my show Fifty Odd Years Of Crabb, in which I tell a bunch of stories about things I’ve learned from life. There are short ones, cooking tips, but there are longer ones and a few sad ones and also an EPIC tale of me humiliating myself which involves Tony Jones which I cannot commit to print because it’s so scorching. Come along and enjoy the soothing spectacle of someone else looking silly. Pictured are some other stories I will tell, more economically than the Tony one. Hasten there! Plus, I love hydrangeas and while in Melbourne saw two things that captured me. Butterfly hydrangeas at @flowersvasette – ohhhhhh. Being friends with @glamgwenblake has many upsides, but one is that when you decide to do a one-woman show on turning 50 outlining the 50 life lessons you’ve learned in that time, she will not only design the slides for the show (thanks @boxerandco) but also design a tea towel that captures all of the 50 things. I have lugged a case full of em to Melbourne for tonight’s first show at @thecapitolrmit – show’s at 8.30pm but my circus family will be selling them in the foyer.

If you’re looking for @sydneycomedyfestival stuff to do this weekend check out @unplannedmelodies at the @factory_theatre – it’s musical improv and this one is basically a Jane Austen themed romp which I know without even seeing it will be extremely funny just because of the sensibilities of the very funny minds involved including @kateknottfunny who @chat10looks3 peeps will know very well, partly because of the help she gave me in rewriting Hamilton to be about @leigh_sales which was one of the sillly things I did in lockdown anyway follow the links, they are great x
