Earth Month is almost over — but you can keep your eco-friendly efforts going!
As Jane says: “Every day we interact with other people, animals, and the environment. And each day, we have opportunities to help another being on the Earth we all share.” With that in mind, consider becoming a guardian for a native species 🌱🪲🐤
A native species is one that is indigenous to a given region or ecosystem, and occurs naturally in the area. Once you know about native species in your area, you can better protect them. Here’s some inspiration:
🐝 Make a bee bath to help hydrate your local pollinators (don’t forget to refresh the water daily!)
🌲 Work with a local nursery to plant a native tree. Jane always recommends kissing the tree before you plant it!
🏡 Create a backyard wildlife refuge, like a pinecone bird feeder or a toad abode
Our youth-action program, @rootsandshoots, has tons of resources — LINK IN BIO or check out rootsandshoots.org!

Please share to reach President @bongbongmarcos @pcogovph @lizamarcos — Renowned ethologist & activist Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) and UN Messenger of Peace, joins #NadineLustre, #SB19_JUSTIN, @GretaThunberg & more to #SaveMasungi. Jane was a trailblazer in the study of chimpanzees in the wild and helped demonstrate their striking similarities to humans. Her current activism is an inspiration and a shining light to all those working in conservation. 🙏 Thank you, @janegoodallinst
“Fortunately, nature is amazingly resilient: Places we have destroyed, given time and help, can once again support life, and endangered species can be given a second chance. And there is a growing number of people, especially young people, who are aware of these problems and are fighting for the survival of our only home, Planet Earth. We must all join that fight before it is too late.” —Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, UN Messenger of Peace
As Earth Month comes to a close, we wanted to share this reminder that our work to heal our planet is far from over 💚 What role will you play?

Few things inspire as much hope as the profound bonds between wildlife keepers and the animals they nurture. These dedicated individuals devote their lives to caring for these creatures, forging deep connections. Jo-Anne McArthur, a stalwart advocate for animals, captures the essence of these relationships through her personal photography and the We Animals project, which chronicles the intricate dynamics between humans and animals.
In this photograph, we witness the poignant testament to the power of these bonds. Despite the disorienting effects of sedation wearing off mid-transport, Pikin, a juvenile lowland gorilla, remains serene, calmly observing her surroundings before nestling back into the reassuring embrace of her caretaker, Appolinaire Ndohoudo. The trust and affection between her and Ndohoudo became a sanctuary of peace amidst the unfamiliarity, exemplifying the profound impact of such relationships on both humans and animals alike.
Thank you @joannemcarthurphotography for being a part of this @vital.impacts initiative celebrating Dr. Jane Goodall on her 90th birthday. It is an honor to share this powerful image.
Much gratitude to @cansoninfinity, @paperandinkstudio, and @theprintspace for your unwavering support in bringing this vision to life.

If you’re looking for a way to celebrate, take Jane’s advice: “Any chance you have to be out in the forest, please try. Just see what it will do for you.”
Jane often talks about the important role that forests play in fighting global climate change, as well as the many resources and services they provide for us on a daily basis. Restoring and growing native trees all over the world is an important part of what the Jane Goodall Institute does:
🌱 Many @rootsandshoots groups globally have started projects to learn about and plant native trees in their communities.
🌿 Village Forest Monitors in Tanzania are trained by JGI staff to check on the health of local forest reserves.
🌳 Key partnerships with impactful groups like the@arbordayfoundation helped us contribute to #JanesGreenHope campaign by planting native trees all over the world. In these photos, you can see planting efforts in Washington, West Virginia, the Amazon, Madagascar, and Oregon.

🌼🌿 Happy May Day! 🌿🌼
This month marks the anniversary of a magnificent moment for the Jane Goodall Institute team: In May 2020, an olive baboon at the Gombe Stream Research Center remarkably gave birth to twins. This marked only the second time this has happened in in the history of the research center, which has been observing these fascinating creatures since 1967.
Twins in the world of baboons are a rare gem, occurring just once in every 1,000 births among these social primates. 🐒🌸

🎉 Playtime’s not just fun—it’s fun-damental! A study titled “The relationship between social play and developmental milestones in wild chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii)” explores social play in chimpanzees by analyzing the 33 years of behavioral data recorded at Gombe Stream National Park, in Tanzania (where Jane began her groundbreaking study, and where JGI continues research to this day).
🐵They found that during social play, young chimpanzees learn a lot of important behavioral, physical, and social skills that they carry on into adulthood. Dive into the details of this fascinating study and see how today’s research continues to build on Dr. Goodall’s initial research 📄.
Shout out to researchers Matthew R. Heintz, Carson M. Murray, A. Catherine Markham, Anne E. Pusey and Elizabeth V. Lonsdorf for their research and insightful findings (read here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5728447/)

A short video of Dr. Goodall’s book covers super-imposed on various outdoor backgrounds. Arguably the most famous and iconic species of Gombe Stream National Park is the chimpanzee! Since Dr.Jane Goodall’s groundbreaking research in the 1960s, these captivating creatures have been at the forefront of scientific inquiry — making Gombe the epicenter of the longest-running, continuous study of wild chimpanzees, conducted by the Jane Goodall Institute 🔍
Chimpanzees are wonderfully unique individuals, with full lives and close friendships. In this enchanting video, two young chimpanzees play enthusiastically against the backdrop of their lush forest home, not so different from human children! It‘s no surprise that humans and chimpanzees share over 98% of their DNA 🧬
From their playful antics to the intricacies of their social dynamics, every moment spent with chimpanzees is a testament to the richness of life in the wild. So join us in celebrating the incredible spirit of our closest living relatives in the animal kingdom🐵🎉

Step into the enchanting embrace of Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania 🌳
We love this haven of biodiversity — which ranges from grassland to woodland to rainforest — and have worked hard to protect it.
In 1992, while flying over Gombe forests where she first researched chimpanzees, Jane Goodall saw a sobering sight: The lush landscape had changed drastically with significantly fewer trees. This crucial, biodiverse forest ecosystem is so essential for wildlife to thrive — and the @janegoodallinst has been working to protect it ever since.
Since that fateful flight, we‘ve worked hand in hand with local communities, governments, and partners to make a difference.
🤝Together, we’ve revitalized over 6 million hectares of habitat across Africa!

Step into the surreal world of @scarletthooftgraafland, where landscapes become stages and art is choreographed amidst the untamed wilderness. In her captivating piece “Wedding Dress Salt,” the ordinary becomes extraordinary as a bride, adorned in crinoline and tulle, defies gravity, caught in a moment suspended between jump and fall.
But what narrative lies beneath the layers of whimsy and mystery? Is it a playful jab at the institution of marriage, hinting at the weightlessness of commitment? Or perhaps it’s a celebration of liberation, the bride breaking free from societal norms? Could she be fleeing the constraints of conventionality?
Explore “Wedding Dress Salt” available at bit.ly/celebratejane90 in the @vital.impacts celebration of Dr. Jane Goodall’s 90th birthday. 90 remarkable women photographers have come together to support @janegoodallinst
Thank you @cansoninfinity, @paperandinkstudio, and @theprintspace for your support in making this dream real.
