Can we take a minute to talk about how there’s a new blood test that can tell you if you’ll ever have Type 1 diabetes in your lifetime? This is amazing news, and it’s so so important to get tested, because 90% of people with t1d have no family history (including me) and half of the cases of t1d are now getting diagnosed later in life as adults. The good news is that if you catch it early enough, there’s also a new FDA approved treatment that can delay the onset of type 1 diabetes. Spread awareness about the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes, and please please go get screened — it’s free. Tell your loved ones. Tell everyone. Go get tested! @t1dexchange has all the resources you need to know about the screening, so please check them out or head over to the link in my bio 🩵 #t1dscreening #diabetes #t1d #typeonediabetes #diabetesawareness #t1dlookslikeme #t1diabetes #diabetic #type1diabetes
When you’re feeling pretty attached to your insulin pump… literally. 🫶🤖 It’s been such a fun summer, and I’m so grateful that my @Omnipod gives me the freedom to all the things I love. I mean, look, it’s so small and tubeless! Plus, it’s waterproof*, so I don’t even think about it anymore when I go to the beach (not for very long, because I’m sooo pale, but that’s another story). Anyway, it’s really been a game changer for me and my diabetes management, and I’m so thankful for it. 💙 If you have any questions for me about Omnipod, leave them in the comments and I’ll try to answer them! For more info, check out the link in my bio or go to http://Omnipod.com/Kelsey *The Pod has an IP28 rating for up to 25 feet for 60 minutes. The PDM is not waterproof. My job is beach and diabetes. 🏝️🩵 And… life with diabetes is unpredictable. I could eat and do the exact same things I did yesterday, and my glucose levels could do something completely different today. Everyday is different, and everything affects glucose levels, and I mean, everything — my mood, hormones, exercise, food, sleep, illness, stress, caffeine, even the weather. Diabetes is always in the back of my mind, and I’m constantly planning, predicting, monitoring and adjusting my insulin doses. It’s a lot… but it’s taught to be in tune with my body and that there’s only so much that’s in my control. Diabetes is always going to have ups and downs, and you just have to go with the flow and do the best you can. #SeeDiabetes #DexcomWarrior #Sponsored #type1diabetes #dexcom #ndam #t1dlookslikeme *Image shown does not include required overpatch. #ad for #omnipod When you meet someone who’s just your type. 😉 It’s NDAM, and I’ve been thinking about all the T1Ds I’ve been so lucky to meet and that inspire me, and one of them is Laura. Laura founded her own nonprofit @yourejustmytype that hosts mental health events for people living with type 1 diabetes. She puts together meet-ups for all different age groups: toddlers, kids, teens and adults. She’s creating an amazing support system for the T1D community, so we can all connect online and IRL to lift each other up. I wish I would have known someone like Laura when I was first diagnosed. I only started meeting other T1Ds in real life recently, and let me tell you, it’s one of the BEST feelings — it’s like you have an instant best friend. Who’s just your type? Tag them below to let them know how much you appreciate them. #justmytype #type1diabetes #ndam #nationaldiabetesawarenessmonth #t1dlookslikeme #typeonediabetes #diabetesawareness #type1diabetic Please note, information posted on my account shouldn’t be considered medical advice. Things I never leave home without: keys, phone, and… glucagon 🔑📱💉 Gvoke HypoPen® is a ready-to-use rescue glucagon injection pen for very low blood sugar emergencies, & as a type one diabetic, I have a lot of low blood sugar events. I tend to go low when I’m *very* active & there’s insulin in my system or when I’m not active *at all* aka I’m sleeping (which can be very scary!) Diabetes is very unpredictable, so you really never know when an emergency might happen. You can do everything the same as you did yesterday, & your body could respond with completely different blood sugars the next day, which is why it’s so important for people living with diabetes to have a back-up method to treat emergency low blood sugars. I always carry glucagon in my purse — my close friends & family all know it’s there, & I’ve taught them how to use it. I always keep glucagon in my nightstand too, just in case I have an emergency nighttime low & I’m unable to eat or drink. I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to T1D or life, in general, so it can give people living with diabetes peace of mind knowing glucagon is there. Check out the link in my bio to learn more about Gvoke HypoPen® 💉💙 What is GVOKE? GVOKE is a prescription medicine used to treat very low blood sugar (severe hypoglycemia) in people with diabetes ages 2 years and above. It is not known if GVOKE is safe and effective in children under 2 years of age. Do not use GVOKE if: you have a tumor in the gland on top of your kidneys (adrenal gland) called a pheochromocytoma, as it may cause a substantial increase in blood pressure; you have a tumor in your pancreas called an insulinoma, as it may cause low blood sugar; or if you are allergic to glucagon or any inactive ingredient in GVOKE. GVOKE may cause other serious side effects, such as Serious skin rash — in certain people with a tumor in their pancreas called a glucagonoma; Serious allergic reactions — Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you have a serious allergic reaction including rash, difficulty breathing, low blood pressure. monday, monday ✨ Before Quarter, there was MONDAYS. A few years ago, I wrote and starred in the web series, MONDAYS. @arnonmanor directed and produced, and we had so much fun creating it together. It was based on a lot of awkward and embarrassing situations I was going through in my twenties. As a writer and actor, I got to experiment with different types of comedy, characters, high concepts, and I learned so much. We made about 25 episodes, and the web series has received over 12 million views 👀 I also got to work with a lot of talented actors… @heyclaytron who played Ethan Craft in Lizzie McGuire played my boyfriend (I highly recommend casting your childhood crush as your love interest), @officialkjb (a Halloweentown icon) played my future self, and @heatherrelizabethh played my life coach (true story: at one point, I actually did hire a life coach in LA, which I do not recommend…) Making MONDAYS was an amazing experience, and it was a big inspiration for @quartermovie – which I can’t wait to share more about soon, but in the meantime, #watchmondays

Double site changgggge, let’s go 🤖💪 To be honest, I never knew there was anything we could do or put on our skin after doing a site change, so I just never put anything on and accepted a little skin irritation here and there. I felt so seen and excited when I found out about @laviorpharma, because their skincare products are specifically made for people living with diabetes and wear medical devices. I’ve been using their hydrogel after changing my CGM and insulin pump, and it really helps those little marks we get from the needle and adhesive heal so much faster, so we can use that same site again sooner! You can check them out at Walmart and on their website at Lavior.com #diabetesempowerment #diabetes #t1d #t1dlookslikeme #type1diabetes #sitechange #insulinpump #cgm #podchange #type1diabetic

how to keep your insulin cool while traveling for the holidays with t1d ✈️🎄✨ I’m usually the worst when it comes to traveling with insulin (don’t tell my endo). Ice packs always get confiscated at security, so I used to just put the insulin in my purse and I hope it wouldn’t get warm 😅🙏 I was shocked and happy when I found out that @4allfamily_shop makes TSA-approved coolers to store and protect insulin while on the go . I love this one, because it also converts into a mini fridge which is perfect if you don’t know if you’ll have access to a fridge where you’re staying. It honestly makes traveling with diabetes sooo much less stressful. Head over to the link in my bio to check it out. traveling with t1d ✈️✨ You know, flying and traveling with t1d is always stressful, and packing insulin is usually a struggle for me. Insulin has to be refrigerated, and I never really know how to pack it and keep it cool, so it doesn’t go bad. I used to try packing it in a lunch box with ice packs, but then, TSA started confiscating the ice packs… So, for a long time, I would just carry my insulin in my purse and just kind of hope for the best 🤷🏻♀️ So I was really excited when I found out that @4allfamily_shop makes TSA-approved coolers to store and protect insulin while on the go. It’s small, simple to use and makes flying with t1d a lot easier. Head over to the link in my bio to check it out.
