Homelessness: up. NHS waiting lists: soaring. Public services: destroyed. Child poverty: at record levels. Wages: lower than in 2008. Everyone: fed up with this disastrous Tory government. On 4th July, we finally have a chance to get rid of them. Bring it on.

Under international law, the UK has a responsibility to ensure it’s not complicit in war crimes. With the ICC seeking an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, there can be no more turning a blind eye. We must demand a ceasefire and stop arming the Israeli government now.
By the end of July, we might have won a Labour government and the Euros. Hyped 🔥
Ireland, Norway and Spain have announced that they recognise the state of Palestine. They join over 140 other countries which have done so already. It’s long overdue for the UK to stand with the Palestinian people and do the same, as Parliament voted to do in 2014.
Rape has been effectively decriminalised. Survivors are being put through a horrific ordeal for years, with little hope of justice being served, and Rishi Sunak refuses to even acknowledge the problem. I was heckled when I raised this at #PMQs. Here’s what’s really happening: Just 2.6% of rapes recorded in 2023 resulted in a charge that same year. Even fewer of these will end in conviction. The average time between reporting and completion in court is 2 years, with many victims waiting far longer. The mental toll that takes on survivors is enormous. No wonder 5 in 6 women who are raped don’t report it. Of those who do, 62% drop out of their cases – up from 44% in 2016. With a record number of cases currently waiting to go to court, the situation is only getting worse. Sunak talks about tougher sentences, ignoring the fact that the vast majority of rapists never face justice at all. The Tories are putting survivors through a living hell and allowing perpetrators to walk free. They should be ashamed of themselves.
For @leftlionmagazine, I wrote about the Tories’ attacks on benefit claimants. Shaming people who are disabled or unwell won’t magically make them fit to work. Neither will plunging them into destitution. We need a welfare system that treats people with dignity. This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we don’t need platitudes. People struggling with mental illness need: – Well funded NHS services – A welfare system that doesn’t dehumanise them – An end to the stigma which the Tory government is perpetuating. Link in bio.

There are no legal routes to the UK for refugees from Gaza. Those who do arrive here could be deported to Rwanda. When I raised this, the minister accused me of supporting smuggling gangs. It’s the Tories who keep them in business by refusing to provide other routes to safety.
The infected blood scandal took 3,000 lives and profoundly impacted tens of thousands more. Victims and their families have waited decades for justice. Now that the truth is out, it’s time to deliver it: compensate those affected and hold those responsible to account. I’d like to pay tribute to all those who have spent long years campaigning on this issue, including my colleague Diana Johnson MP, as well as many brave victims and their loved ones. Without your tireless work, today’s damning report wouldn’t have happened.

Climate scientists are emphatic that, unless we act with urgency, we’re heading for disaster. Meanwhile, Tory MPs are turning our survival into a culture war with their climate delay and denialism. These conspiracy theorists are living on another planet. Probably a flat one.
Last week, I visited the @nationalholocaustmuseumuk with @alexnorrislabour and @liliangreenwood. It was so powerful to learn about the stories of Holocaust survivors and the anti-racist education the centre provides. With antisemitic hate crime on the rise, this work is especially vital.
Many families across the UK worry day and night for the lives of their relatives in Gaza. We need a Palestinian Family Visa Scheme that’s free, accessible and inclusive of extended families. It was great to see so much support for @gazafamiliesreunited from MPs of all major parties.
