To all of you, I say a very big thank you! – LHL (PMO Video)
Today was my last Parliament Sitting as Prime Minister. It has been an eventful 40 years in Parliament, 20 as PM, where I’ve overseen and participated in many substantial debates — from the building of Integrated Resorts, the NMP and NCMP schemes, as well as the Elected Presidency. I thank all MPs, NMPs, and NCMPs, past and present, for your contributions to robust and serious debates in @parl_sg. As I have mentioned before, this won’t be the last you’ll see of me in Parliament! 😂 I’ll continue serving as an MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC, albeit from a different seat in the Chamber. I look forward to your continued support! Thank you to all the female PAP MPs for arranging for the impressive cake in the Members’ Room after Parliament adjourned! – LHL (PMO Video by Anthony Chia)
I’ll be on leave till 30 June. Looking forward to spending time with family, and catching up on my reading. The school holidays are ending soon. I hope you’ve taken time to go on outings as a family. If you want to refresh your mind and body, and have fun exploring one of our most beautiful green spaces, head to the Singapore Botanic Gardens! Made several trips recently to wander along the familiar paths and test out a different camera 😄– LHL (Photos by me)
Had a great time at @njc.funtasia today! Kudos to @nationaljc and their partner organisation, Eden School and Eden Centre for Adults under the Autism Association of Singapore (AAS), for organising this charity carnival. The funds raised will help Eden Centre for Adults to support programmes for adults on the autism spectrum. It is also NJC’s 55th anniversary this year. As an alumnus, I am proud to see how much the school has progressed. Meeting and interacting with the many young and enthusiastic NJC students today, energised and cheered me. I hope you will live your life with passion, work hard, and excel beyond your academic pursuits. My heartfelt congratulations to NJC on your 55th anniversary and successful carnival, and I wish you many more good years ahead! – LHL (PMO Video by Jeline Chia)
Took a look back and shared my thoughts on my two decades as PM during in-depth interviews in English and Mandarin with local media. The English interview will be aired on @channelnewsasia in two parts – the first covers foreign relations and the economy, while the second focusses on social safety nets and good politics. You can watch it tonight and tomorrow night (10 and 11 May) at 9pm. Or catch the Chinese interview on Channel 8 at 8pm tonight and @zaobaosg. – LHL (PMO Video by Koh Yong Sheng)
Held my last Cabinet meeting as Prime Minister before the handover next week. We have held weekly Cabinet meetings year in, year out – even during the pandemic, where we had to shift to teleconferencing. These meetings are a crucial platform for discussing national issues, major policies, and matters that affect all our lives. It has been my privilege to lead my Cabinet team for the past 20 years. In Cabinet, the Prime Minister is “primus inter pares” – not the boss with his subordinates, but the first among equals, all deliberating together to find the best solutions for Singapore. I thank my colleagues for their steadfast support. From next week, PM @lawrencewongst will take charge in Cabinet meetings, but I will continue to contribute as Senior Minister. Singapore will be in good hands under the 4G team and I am ready to support the new team in their work for Singapore’s success. – LHL (MCI Photo by Fyrol)
(PMO Video by Neo Shi Jie)
You might have seen a deepfake video of me asking viewers to sign up for an investment product that claims to have guaranteed returns. The video is not real! AI and deepfake technology are becoming better by the day. On top of mimicking my voice and layering the fake audio over actual footage of me making last year’s National Day Message, scammers even synced my mouth movements with the audio. This is extremely worrying: people watching the video may be fooled into thinking that I really said those words. Please remember, if something sounds too good to be true, do proceed with caution. If you see or receive scam ads of me or any other Singapore public office holder promoting an investment product, please do not believe them. You can also report them via the government’s ScamShield Bot on WhatsApp at go.gov.sg/scamshield-bot I thank the many of you who alerted me to this latest scam. We must stay vigilant in order to protect ourselves and the ones around us. – LHL
Over the past few weeks, I have received many messages of appreciation and encouragement, and I would like to thank all of you for your warm words and good wishes. Many of you shared stories of how your lives have improved from various government policies, and the immense pride you feel as Singaporeans. Nation-building is not an easy task, and we would not have been able to achieve so much over the decades without your loyal support. I am very moved to hear how many of you are giving back to your community, and contributing to our society in your own ways. I received quite a few notes from non-Singaporeans too, who are living or working here, in some cases for many years. I am glad you have found this a safe, happy country to live in, where you can find good jobs, bring up your families safely, and contribute to our economy and society. Many of you have also wished me a happy retirement. I am stepping down as PM but I am not stopping work! I will remain in government, and continue serving as MP for @angmokiogrc. I will do whatever I can to help PM Lawrence and his team succeed. Singapore will always face new challenges, of one sort or another. But as long as we are willing to work hard and strive together as one united people, I am confident that we can make our little red dot shine even brighter! 🇸🇬❤️– LHL (Photo by me)
Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam made a Ministerial statement on Singapore’s national drug control policy in Parliament today. Singapore has long maintained a strict drug control policy. This has undeniably been effective in the fight against drugs, even though some have criticised it. I thank CNB for their steadfast efforts to control the drug situation. We have also implemented anti-drug programmes and preventive drug education to tackle the problem upstream. Joining us in Parliament today were ex-drug offenders, their family members, and officials and volunteers involved in anti-drug programmes. Having met with them, I am proud of their efforts in remaining drug-free, and am confident we can control the drug problem and safeguard the lives of Singaporeans. (PMO Video by Anthony Chia)
Sat down for an interview with local media, my last as PM. So much has changed in the last 20 years since I took my oath of office. Our little red dot has made much progress, still little, but a bit redder. We’ve sailed through tough times and dealt with sensitive issues, and I’m glad that we are forging a more inclusive society and a stronger Singaporean identity. Some fundamental truths have not changed – we are still a small, vulnerable island, we must remain open to the world, and we have to rely on our wits and determination to survive. We’ve journeyed this far together as one people, one Singapore. I thank everyone for your contributions. Please continue to give our 4G leaders your fullest support, to take Singapore to greater heights, and create a brighter future for many generations to come. This is not quite an “exit interview”. I’m stepping down as PM, but will still be serving you as Senior Minister and MP. Might have a bit more time to use my @skillsfuturesg credits to brush up my photography and AI knowhow. 🙂 You can watch my interview here: go.gov.sg/lhl-interview-el – LHL (PMO Video by Koh Yong Sheng)
World leaders, defence and military officials, security experts and policymakers from the region and beyond are in Singapore for the annual IISS Shangri-la Dialogue. Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (@bongbongmarcos) gave the keynote address at the opening dinner last night. The meetings and discussions on strategic security issues will continue over the weekend. The Dialogue is taking place during a troubled time. There is ongoing conflict in Gaza and Ukraine, and nearer home, growing tensions in the South China Sea. These complex issues cannot be resolved during a summit, but at such a neutral platform the different sides can meet and communicate openly. I wish all participants a fruitful visit here. – LHL (MCI Photos by Betty Chua)

Glad to meet His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar (@officialsultanibrahim), Malaysia’s Yang di-Pertuan Agong, this morning. Today is also a special date for both of us: on this day two years ago, Sultan Ibrahim conferred on me the Dato’ Sri Paduka Mahkota Johor, Johor’s highest honour. Singapore and Malaysia share a close friendship, underpinned by historical ties and strong relationships between our governments and businesses. In January, PM @anwaribrahim_my and I observed the completion of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS Link) connecting span and witnessed the signing of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) MOU. President @tharman.sg will be hosting the Sultan to a State Banquet tonight. Tomorrow Sultan Ibrahim will visit the @parl_sg and and be briefed on how the Thomson-East Coast line connects with the RTS Link. I wish the Sultan a fruitful visit! – LHL ([1] MCI Photo by Ngau Kai Yan, [2-3] MCI Photos by Lim Sin Thai)

Happy Mother’s Day to all mums, grandmums and mums-to-be! ❤️ Had a wonderful time celebrating with the mums of Fernvale and their loved ones this evening. Launched an e-book with beautiful memories of residents and their mums. Also visited booths providing useful information on matters like women’s health, active ageing, and scam prevention. I thank @ganthiampoh_ and his team for filling this meaningful event with local delights and performances. I also thank everyone for the warm smiles, handshakes, and good wishes! Mothers are pillars of support for their children and occupy a central role in family life. Do give your mum a hug and kiss every day and let her know how much you appreciate her! – LHL (PMO Video by Koh Yong Sheng)
Religious leaders play an important role in engaging communities and building bridges between the different religious groups in Singapore. Glad to have an opportunity to catch up with some of them when I visited Masjid Ba’alwie yesterday. Built in 1952 by an Imam from the Al-Attas family, the mosque is home to a “mini-museum” of religious artefacts and texts, not just from Islam but also all other major faiths. The fact that texts and artefacts from diverse religions can all be displayed together in the mosque is a wonderful example of the inter-religious friendship and cooperation we enjoy here. We must work hard to strengthen religious harmony in Singapore. Religious leaders, like those from @iro.sg, are key to maintaining trust and respect between the different groups. I am very grateful for their efforts to bring the great faiths together. Long may this continue! – LHL (MCI Photos by Lim Sin Thai)

Glad to meet Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (@bongbongmarcos) again, this time in Singapore. Mr Marcos Jr. is the keynote speaker at the IISS Shangri-la Dialogue tonight. We had a good discussion on social media trends and technology, including the impact of deepfakes and artificial intelligence. We also discussed the challenges posed by extremism to the region, and the continued need for close collaboration and information sharing. Singapore and the Philippines commemorate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year. I am confident that our friendship will continue to grow from strength to strength. 🇸🇬🇵🇭 – LHL (MCI Photo by Fyrol)
Happy May Day to everyone! Spoke at the May Day Rally this morning, my last major speech before I hand over to DPM Lawrence Wong on 15 May. Glad to have this opportunity to say a big personal thank you to the Labour Movement, who have played such a crucial role in Singapore’s success from the beginning. Our dramatic progress wouldn’t have been possible without the tripartite partnership between the Labour Movement, employers, and the government; underpinned by the symbiotic relationship between @ntucsingapore and the @papsingapore. Today, in the 70th year of the PAP’s founding and after 20 years as PM, I can say in all good conscience, that both the NTUC and PAP have delivered on our promises to Singaporeans. The unions will play an even more important role in the future, as we deal with geopolitical and economic uncertainty. I am glad they are transforming themselves to stay relevant. We have built a strong foundation and must make the most of these advantages to create brighter prospects and wider opportunities for the next generation. I have every confidence in Lawrence and his 4G team to realise their Forward SG agenda. I ask all Singaporeans to rally behind them, and work together to make Singapore succeed, for all of our sakes. Majulah Singapura! – LHL #EveryWorkerMatters #MayDayRally2024
Glad to meet @dr.hunmanetofcambodia today. We have met before, including at @asean Summits, but this is his first official visit to Singapore as PM. PM Manet and I had a good discussion on renewable energy, carbon credits, the path towards an ASEAN Power Grid, and regional economic integration. We also looked forward to increasing tourism flows and strengthening people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Singapore and Cambodia commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. I wish PM Manet a pleasant stay in Singapore! – LHL (MCI Photo by Ngau Kai Yan)
