Good news for the Associated Press (and freedom of the press). A federal judge has ordered the White House must reinstate full access for AP to cover presidential events including on White House grounds. AP says this affirms “on First Amendment grounds that the government cannot punish the news organization for the content of its speech”. Trump banned AP from reporting in the White House press pool and at some limited press events, after the AP refused to call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. They’ve been blocked since February 11. Judge Trevor N. McFadden held off making his ruling immediate – giving time for the government to respond or appeal. It is worth noting Judge McFadden is an appointee of President Trump. The White House has taken steps to exert more control over who gets to cover Trump, including where reporters get to sit during press secretary briefings and interviews. The Trump administration has also taken an aggressive stance towards media – most recently, threatening funding for public broadcasters NPR and PBS. It’s worth noting: the @apnews kept up its thorough, fair and serious reporting even after they were booted from the pool.
A stunning Oval Office confrontation today. Trump and VP Vance accused the Ukraine President of failing to show the US proper appreciation for its support in the war with Russia, repeatedly saying he didn’t appear thankful. Zelensky subsequently left the White House before a mineral deal was signed – the purpose for his visit. A planned presser was also canceled. Above is what Zelenskyy posted to X following the meeting. Trump also posted on Truth Social: “I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace…I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace”. It’s unclear where negotiations go from here.
A blow to the Trump administration’s deportation regime. In a 9-0 ruling the Supreme Court denied an emergency appeal and ordered the Trump administration to return a man who was taken from the US to that prison in El Salvador because of an “adminstrative error.” While the story is getting a lot of coverage from legacy media sources and sources on the left and center — very few sources on the right are even acknowledging it. To track who is covering which immigration stories and how they’re doing it, you can use Ground News. On their app and website they gather sources from across the political spectrum in a way that’s easy to search. And they’re giving the News Not Noise community 40% off a subscription to their all access vantage plan. Find that at groundnews.com/nnn. Do you think the Trump Administration will comply with this ruling?
Today the Supreme Court issued two decisions related to forced removals of immigrants from the US to that prison in El Salvador. In both cases it favored the Trump Administration’s moves – in one instance allowing the government to continue forced removals. In the other allowing them to keep a man who was removed on an “administrative error” in jail. More details on why and what next in the video. Are you surprised by this?
Possible insider trading. Chaos. Indecision. Irrational policy. And a position that alienates allies and moves markets away from the dollar. But did you know that China owns about $760 billion in US Treasuries. There’s been a massive sell off of treasuries. Who might be doing it….?

No, this isn’t an anxiety dream. Shutdown-related staffing shortages are creating backed up TSA lines that are stretching 3 hours at Bush Airport in Houston. Many people are missing their flights, and only two out of the five terminals are open. Wait times are also estimated to be over one hour at Houston’s Hobby airport. Wait times are only expected to get worse as the shutdown continues and air traffic controllers keep working without pay. The Director of Aviation for Houston Airports released a statement thanking passengers for their patience and flexibility during the shutdown. He also assured the public that “Houston Airports is doing everything possible to support our TSA partners and keep passengers moving safely and efficiently” and asked people to keep getting to the airport early/expecting long wait times. This is a problem affecting airports throughout Texas and the country. A user wrote on X, “I’ve found hell on earth and it is Dallas-Fort Worth airport.” Want more fact based information like this? HOUSE ADVANCES “SAVE” ACT The House voted to pass a bill that would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections today, codifying a Trump executive action. If passed by the Senate, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act would amend the National Voter Registration Act to require individuals to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote. The bill would also take noncitizens off of states’ eligible voters lists and allow voters to sue election officials that don’t follow the proof of citizenship process. Democrats Ed Case (HI), Henry Cuellar (TX), Jared Golden (ME) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA) joined all Republicans in voting “yes” on the bill. The SAVE Act raised concerns among voting rights activists and election officials who said it would keep millions of citizens who don’t have easy access to proof of citizenship documents, like a birth certificate, from voting. It would also disenfranchise married women whose ID documents may not reflect name changes. According to the Brennan Center for Justice, about 21 million citizens don’t have their proof of citizenship readily available — they might be in safety deposit boxes, at a family member’s house or simply lost, destroyed or stolen. They found that 11% of those who don’t have ready access are Americans of color, which is disproportionate to the 8% who are white. As the bill heads to the Senate, it needs support from every Republican and seven Democrats to reach the 60-vote threshold and pass. Given that it’s already illegal for noncitizens to vote, what do you think the goal of the SAVE Act actually is? Let us know in the comments. #womensrights #citizenship #equality
WILL THE WHITE HOUSE DEFY SUPREME COURT IMMIGRATION ORDER? The Trump administration defied a judge’s order to provide information on how it intends to bring a wrongly removed Maryland man back to the United States. The administration’s failure to comply with Supreme Court directive threatens a Constitutional crisis – a showdown between the executive and judicial branches. The order, filed by Judge Paula Xinis, required the Trump administration to provide an explanation for how it plans to bring Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia back to the United States after he was unlawfully deported to El Salvador last month. US Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller wrote on X that Abrego Garcia should not be returned because he is in the “custody and control of a sovereign foreign nation.” More in tonight’s newsletter. NEVERMIND With markets plunging, and other nations announcing strep reciprocal tariffs the White House just now reversed course and announced the highest tariffs on other nations will be paused for 90 days. China is an exception and the Treasury Secretary announced tariffs on China will be hiked to 125%. The White House officials are trying to spin this as a success, claiming that Trump is backing off these high tariffs just hours after he imposed them, — because so many nations have reached out to negotiate. The press secretary called it “the art of the deal.” But it is instead a reversal of Trump’s position just days ago — when press secretary Caroline Leavitt said word that Trump might delay these tariffs for 90 days is “fake news.” Trump has the lost of the support of some of his most ardent Wall Street donors and Senate loyalists who have denounced the tariffs as destructive and one said they’d spark “economic nuclear winter.” This creates some room for an exhale and the markets are rebounding a bit — but the uncertainty remains as does the global loss of faith in the US as a stable, reliable business partner. Trump could still re-impose tariffs and some expect he will. Keep in mind the 10% across the board tariffs remain in place, which is still far higher than our tariffs just a week ago. All this as Congress struggles to pass Trump’s tax-cut plan. Those efforts were made harder by the concern and upset over Trump’s irrational tariff plan.
In a cabinet meeting today HHS secretary RFK said the CDC will know the cause of autism by September, to praise from Trump, RFK has routinely spread discredited theories that childhood vaccines cause autism despite the fact that for decades researchers have studied this and found no link. A major factor in increased autism diagnoses is better screening and increased awareness, as well as a broader definition of autism. What do you think his scientists will report in September?

RFK Jr wants the fluoride out of your drinking water. Scientists call RFK’s claims about fluoride “junk science”. They’re sounding the alarm because he is now calling on states to ban fluoride in drinking water and the on CDC to remove the recommendation to add fluoride to drinking water. RFK, the nation’s top health official, has called fluoride an “industrial waste” and falsely linked it to various health conditions including neurological damage and bone cancer. FACTS: Fluoride in water is proven to have profound health benefits, including strengthening teeth and reducing cavities by about 25% in children and adults. This has follow on benefits for full body health. The CDC considers it one of the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. Dentists and national health organizations say this change would disproportionately impact low-income communities who can’t afford regular dentists visits. Remember, the federal government does not mandate fluoridation or control local water systems. That is controlled by the states. Pay attention to your local government’s decision and whether you need to check with your dentist about maintaining your health.
You have so many questions about Trump’s tariffs, the market reaction – what will be the impact on our economy and how could we get out of this. Jason Furman joined me to provide some answers. He shares what he thinks it the likely outcome of all this. Find the full interview on the News Not Noise Substack. No paywall. Link in stories and bio.
Trump’s tariffs have gone into effect and nations around the world are retaliating. To be clear: Trump put 10% across-the-board tariffs on every nation. Those went into effect Saturday. He announced extremely high additional tariffs on another 60 nations and those went into effect today, though allies and many supporters begged him not to. Some of the targeted nations, including Japan and South Korea, say they want to reach a deal to remove or lower tariffs. Others are announcing retaliatory tariffs until a deal can be reached. Among those countries: EU, China, and Canada. But the biggest confrontation will be with China — Trump slapped 104% tariffs on them and they responded with a reciprocal 84% tariff.
