Everyone talks about the birth story, but nobody talks about how hard postpartum can be. It’s not just the raging hormones or sleepless nights (which morning news trained me for :)). It’s breastfeeding through tears cause it’s so painful and you need to pee but you can’t cause the baby is latched on to you, so you wet your adult diaper you’re wearing cause mothers can bleed for up to 12 weeks after birth, and then baby simultaneously has a blowout and spits up in your hair. And in 3 hours it all repeats again. And again. Somehow in the midst of all this you still think this is the greatest thing you’ve ever done. 💕

Alessandra’s big debut with the KTLA fam at 2 weeks old❤️ This was at @jllosangeles’s Touch-A-Truck event, one of their bigger fundraisers to raise money for programs that support foster youth and homeless families. I’m amazed by the selfless group of women who spent more than six months preparing for this day and raised a record $33k (despite the rain). Well done, ladies!! 🙌🏽 I was lucky to be on the committee and especially impressed by our fearless leader @itsjamieshapiro 👏🏽 A goal I have is to instill philanthropy and giving back into Alessandra’s DNA, so I’m starting her young 🤣 Thank you to my KTLA fam for the kind words, miss you love you forever! @kaceymontoya @laurenlyster @jasmineasimpkins @mtelly @dougkolk
There is comfort in this pain cause it reflects how deeply she was loved 💔 About 3.5 years ago, Gracie was given months to live, but she was strong-willed and showed everyone she had more life in her. As hard as it is to lose her, we are celebrating the roughly 1,200 extra days our family got with Gracie beyond what doctors thought possible 🥹 Thank you for your pure sweetness and unconditional puppy love these past nearly 15 years. Before we go on baby watch, had to say this! The only thing necessary for the triumph of dysfunction is for good, common sense people to do nothing. There is a counter movement brewing. The way the good ones showed up to support this campaign tells us we are fighting the right fight. A tough part of running for office is “dialing for dollars” but something profound happened— I realized how many contacts in my phone had passed away. It hit me. Life is not a dress rehearsal. The same people who will criticize you or make you feel afraid to take the leap are the same people who would be too afraid to try themselves. And then it’s all over. Go for it. You will not lose. You will win, or learn. That will bring you closer to your destiny. We always share quotes from the greats about embracing failure, but most remain paralyzed from the fear of it. I love what @sarablakely shared about the question her dad would ask at the dinner table— “what did you fail at this week?” Do not fear failure, but be terrified of regret. . . Happy Earth Day! 🌎 🌱 As an avid diver, I’ve seen firsthand how plastics are increasingly pervasive in even the most remote corners of the world, including large piles of it floating off the coast of Malaysia Borneo (where this video was shot). We can’t recycle our way out of this. Policy makers must not only address single-use plastics, but also look at a complete overhaul of the global plastic system. Perhaps the U.S. should lead the way, as we are the worst culprit. We throw away about 300 pounds of plastic trash, per person, every single year. As researchers predict more plastic than fish in the sea for the next generation, and recent studies show the vast majority of us have microplastics in our blood— we are poisoning ourselves and our environment. This is not sustainable. Lawmakers must also push for the expanded protection of our ocean against overfishing through the establishment of more ocean sanctuaries, kind of like national parks. I think we can all agree we want our kids to breathe clean air and drink clean water; protecting the environment cannot be a partisan issue. #Earthday #earthdayeveryday
